If We Could Just Sit and Talk
I’d tell you:
- That gigging today doesn’t mean you’ll be gigging 5 years from now.
- That nothing beats building relationships with quality people.
- If you’re missing home and/or friends and family now, it’ll only get worse.
- Don’t build a career, build a life.
- EVERYTHING you’re doing is building towards or taking away from the life you want. Choose wisely.
- Yes everything. Your words. Your actions. Your relationships. Your equipment. Your attitude.
- You don’t have to be a “STAR” to be a happy, productive, successful musician or artist.
- Define “success” for yourself.
- Music is first and foremost about art. It always has been and always will be.
- Making art takes craftsmanship. Get great at crafting art.
- Decide if you want to make a living from art or live to make art. There’s a difference. You can one, the other, or do both.
- This is all your choice. No one’s but yours because, this is your life.
- Making a living from art takes entrepreneurship. Get great at building and running the business called You, Inc.
- Serve others. Give value – some of it for free, some not.
- You are more than your talents – know your true worth as a person.
- The more you give the world your true worth, the more success you’ll find. People gravitate towards truth.
- Get around people who are in life where you want to be.
- You have more opportunity than any musician who has ever lived. And you’ll have more tomorrow.
- And I’d tell you so much more and ask thought provoking questions too.
- But I’ll leave you with this for today: get to work. Yes, it takes work. Anything worth having does – and your life is indeed worth it.
Are any of these a surprise?
