I had to share a “bonus track” for today’s Music & Money Monday.
I received the most recent royalty statement for the one song I ever wrote that got any traction in the publishing world.
The song earned $0.28 cents for the 2nd Quarter pay period. WooHoo!
But my share is $0.04 cents.
And oh, btw, my current account balance – the running total of all royalties due to me at this time – is $8.13. And they only send checks on balances over $20.00. I’ll be waiting a long time.
BUT, lest you think I’m complaining or trying to get you depressed, this song DID make me money. For many years, I would get checks in the mail ever three months. Sometimes they were $25.00 and sometimes they were $250 (okay, rarely).
My point? I should’ve written more. $0.04 cents isn’t much money, but multiplies several times, it could be a nice gift in the mailbox.
